I have experience of running musical workshops and sessions in every educational setting I have worked, including Autism, Aspergers and with Deaf students.
If you wish to use some of my ideas or discuss your needs this can be done by email, over the phone or by inviting me to your place of work.
Are you working in a Special Needs schools for the first time?
Are you a Music Co-ordinator without a musical background?
Do you want a fresh approach to problematic situations?
I have tried and tested techniques that I am happy to share with you and you can use them and change them to suit your specific needs.
All my ideas give instant opportunities for students to engage with and make decisions about the music being made. They also give the teacher or workshop leader time to evaluate students' contributions which will feed into next steps and further projects.
The key is always to make the student an active contributor to a project by inviting them to make decisions about the music being made. This can be as simple as getting them to pick their own instrument or deciding when they want to play but can also lead to more complex decision making and possibilities for them to take the role of conductor and/or composer.
Feel free to contact me to discuss these ideas further, for copies
of session plans or for help with facilitating your own musical ideas.
